Why MPG Builds Differently (And Why It Matters for Your Home)
For 20 years I've kept my head down, my boots on, and let the work speak.
I don't love putting myself in the spotlight. But the more families I sit with at kitchen tables looking at floor plans and budgets and trying to figure out who to trust with the biggest investment of their life, the more I realize:
Who you build with matters as much as what you build.
And the fact that two women are at the helm of this construction company? That matters. Not because of marketing. Because it changes how the work actually gets done.
So here's the honest version. The why-MPG-builds-differently story.
A Quick Intro (Because You Probably Don't Know Us Yet
I'm Dee Martinez. I'm 48, a mom, a grandma (the grandkids call me Nena), and I'm the CEO of MPG Management.
MPG Management is a licensed General Contracting company, and our qualifier is Lilian Isabel Valdes, a licensed GC right here in Florida. Lilian is also a woman, so yes, there are two women making the big calls at this company. We love that for us.
I lead the operations, the vision, the client relationships, the content, and the direction of every project we take on. Lilian ensures we're operating within full compliance of Florida's licensing requirements. Together, we're not just checking boxes. We're building something that lasts.
MPG has been doing this for over 20 years. We started in remodels, grew into full GC work, and now we're building custom luxury homes using cold-formed steel framing. Family-owned. Faith-driven. Based in Kissimmee, serving most of Central Florida.
I have a husband I love, kids I'd do anything for, and grandbabies who think I'm the coolest. (I'm working on earning that title permanently.)
That's us. Now here's why that matters when you're building.
1. I've Sat Where You're Sitting
Before I was running a GC company, I was a homeowner trying to remodel a kitchen.
Got quoted three wildly different prices by three different guys who couldn't explain what they were doing. Got talked down to. Got ignored when I asked questions. Got told "don't worry about it" about decisions I absolutely should have worried about.
I remember exactly how that felt: frustrated, talked over, and like nobody respected my money.
I built MPG so families wouldn't have that experience. Every consultation, I'm sitting on YOUR side of the table. I explain things in plain English. I welcome every question. I'll be the first to tell you when something isn't worth the money.
2. We Look at Homes Like the People Living In Them
A house is a structure. A home is where your kids do homework, where you cook Thanksgiving dinner, where you collapse on the couch at the end of a hard day, where your grandbabies run laps around the kitchen island.
We think about how families actually USE a home. Where the dog water bowl goes. Where the laundry actually piles up. Where Mom needs to set her keys when she walks in. Whether the kitchen is set up so two people can cook without bumping into each other.
This isn't fluff. It's design that's lived. Most builders are designing rooms. We're designing the way your family will live every day for the next 30 years.
3. Our Standard Is "Would We Live Here?"
Before we sign off on any phase of construction, we ask one question:
If this were MY family's home, would I be OK with this?
If the answer is no, we fix it. Doesn't matter what the spec says. Doesn't matter what the budget pressure is. We don't deliver work we wouldn't accept in our own house.
That's not bravado. That's a 20-year track record. Across 137 five-star Google reviews. Across hundreds of remodels and builds.
4. We Communicate Like Human Beings
Here's a complaint I hear constantly from people about their previous contractors: "They wouldn't return my calls." "They disappeared for two weeks." "They told me the cabinets were ordered when they weren't."
We don't run MPG that way.
When you build with us, you get weekly progress updates with photos. You can reach me or my project manager directly. If there's a problem, you'll hear about it from us FIRST, not from a delayed timeline three weeks later.
Faith and family values aren't a marketing slogan here. They're the operating system. We treat people the way we want to be treated. Imagine that.
5. We See the Whole Picture, Not Just the Build
Most builders are good at building. That's where their thinking starts and stops. But a custom home is also an investment, a legacy, a financial decision, and a life choice.
We think about:
Resale value, even if you plan to live there forever, life happens. Will this design appeal to the next buyer?
Insurance pricing. Are we building you a home that costs a fortune to insure, or one that earns you discounts?
Long-term maintenance. What choices today reduce the contractor calls you'll be making 10 years from now?
Energy efficiency. What will your power bill look like in August? In Florida, this matters more than people think.
Aging in place. Even if you're 35 today, are we building doorways and shower stalls that work when you're 75?
Being a mom and grandma teaches you to think long-term. About generations. About what you're handing down. About building things that outlast you.
That perspective ends up in every MPG build.
6. We'll Tell You When NOT to Build
We've talked clients out of building. Out of remodeling. Out of adding the second story they didn't actually need.
That sounds like a bad business strategy. It's actually the best one we have. Because the families we're honest with, the ones we tell "this isn't right for you right now," those are the families who refer everyone to MPG for the next 20 years.
You can't fake long-term thinking. Either you have it or you don't.
7. Steel Framing Isn't About Trendy. It's About Lasting.
When MPG decided to start building custom homes, and chose cold-formed steel framing as our differentiator, it wasn't because steel was trendy. It was because we want every home we build to still be standing strong when my grandkids are old enough to inherit them.
Wood-framed homes often need major structural work at 30 to 50 years. Steel-framed homes are engineered for 100+. That's the difference between building something and building a legacy.
If you want a "good enough" home for the next 20 years, there are plenty of builders for that. If you want a home your great-grandkids will still be living in? Let's talk.
So What Does All This Mean for YOUR Build?
I'm not going to claim every female-led company is better than every male-led company. That's silly. This industry is full of incredible builders I respect deeply.
What I will say is this:
Being women in a male-dominated industry has pushed us to be sharper, more communicative, and more accountable than the standard.
Being a mom and grandma has taught me to think about homes the way the people who live in them actually think about them.
Being faith-driven means we run this business by a set of principles that don't change when the work gets hard or the budget gets tight.
That's not marketing. That's just how it works.
And when you're choosing who's going to build the most important purchase of your life, that should matter.
