One of the first questions we hear is "How long will my kitchen be out of commission?" For most Central Florida kitchens, plan on 4–8 weeks of active work, depending on scope and material lead times. Here's the honest week-by-week.
Before work starts (1–4 weeks of planning)
Design, selections (cabinets, counters, tile), final quote, contract, and ordering materials — long-lead items like custom cabinets are ordered now.
Week 1 — Demo & prep
Protect the home, demo the old kitchen, haul it out. Surprises behind the walls surface here.
Week 2 — Rough plumbing, electrical & inspections
If moving anything, it happens here, followed by county inspections. We don't cover walls until it passes.
Week 3 — Drywall, paint & flooring
Walls closed up, painted; flooring in.
Week 4 — Cabinets & countertop template
Cabinets installed; counters templated (stone fabrication then takes time — normal).
Weeks 5–6 — Counters, backsplash, fixtures & finish
Counters set, backsplash tiled, sink/faucet/appliances connected, lighting and hardware, final touch-ups.
Week 7–8 (if needed) — Punch list & walkthrough
We walk it with you and don't call it done until you do.
What causes delays
Material lead times (we order early) • hidden damage • change orders (we tell you the impact first) • permitting (we manage it). Track it all in Buildertrend.
